Tamira (Tami) Lopez

Senior Associate Attorney

Tamira (Tami) Lopez

Tamira Lopez is a senior associate attorney with Hughes & Sullivan. While she works on general dissolution cases, her primary focus is on child custody and paternity issues. Before joining Hughes & Sullivan, Ms. Lopez was an associate attorney with a family law firm in San Jose, focusing on dissolution cases involving property rights, support, and custody. While attending law school at Santa Clara University School of Law, Ms. Lopez was a research associate for a psychology professor publishing a work on various custody issues. She also worked as a legal extern for Justice William W. Bedsworth of the California Court of Appeals, 4th District, in Santa Ana, California. In addition, she obtained experience in juvenile dependency while working for Associate Dependency Attorneys.

Ms. Lopez has always been interested in law, and knew she would be an attorney since the age of 12. Her father, Dave Lopez, a news reporter for KCBS and KCAL, calls her a born lawyer because she loves to argue with him. While growing up, she particularly enjoyed hearing her father's stories about the trials he covered. She was drawn to family law in particular at an early age.

Ms. Lopez's interest in child issues is shown through her affiliation with several charitable organizations. She has been a volunteer at the Orangewood Children's Home since 2001, and recently joined the organization's PALS group. She also volunteers for the Hugh O'Brien Youth Organization (HOBY). She is a member of the California State Bar Association Family Law Section, Orange County Bar Association, and the UCSD Alumni Association.

In addition to her Juris Doctor Degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, Ms. Lopez received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California, San Diego. Her academic honors include the Muir College Provost's list, Honors Moot Court, and a Certificate of Excellence in legal research and writing.

A native Californian, Ms. Lopez enjoys traveling, watching movies, and kickboxing. "I understand that our clients come to Hughes & Sullivan during one of the most difficult times in their lives," said Ms. Lopez. "My compassion, patience, and understanding, coupled with a commitment to do my best, makes this time a bit easier for them."
